J. Kevin Morris, DVM

Dr. James Kevin Morris is a passionate veterinarian who has been caring for animals since graduating from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. In 2000, he purchased Lake Orion Veterinary Hospital, which has grown into a trusted part of the community. The hospital moved into its current location in 2014, offering a warm and welcoming space for pets and their families.

Outside of work, Dr. Morris enjoys life with his wife, Melanie, and their dogs, Chapter and Indy. He’s an avid outdoor enthusiast who spends his free time kayaking, hiking, and capturing the beauty of nature through photography.

Known for his down-to-earth approach and genuine care for animals, Dr. Morris continues to dedicate his life to helping pets live happy, healthy lives.

Lori Penman, DVM

Dr. Penman is a dedicated veterinarian with a strong passion for animal health, welfare and the human-animal bond. A graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine she brings a thoughtful and compassionate approach to every patient. 

With a special interest in animal behavior, she enjoys helping pet owners better understand their companions and strengthen their relationships. Her commitment to advancing veterinary medicine extends beyond the clinic. She is a past President of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, a former long-standing member of the Animal Care Committee and currently serves on the One Health Committee, reflecting her belief in the interconnectedness of animal, human and  environmental health. 

Dr. Penman is known not only for her clinical expertise but also for the care and empathy she shows every client and patient.

Melanie Morris, Hospital Manager, Veterinary Technician

Melanie graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in 1984 as an Animal Health Technician, becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Missouri in 1984, and in Nevada in 1989, before moving to Michigan in 1992. She married Dr. Morris in 1985, just before he entered veterinary school.  Their four children are living across the United States.  Her dog, Indy, has the very important job of keeping her busy, entertained, and active.  She loves her farm animals, knitting, hand spinning her own yarn, and machine embroidery.  She enjoys her farm animals, too.  She has a steer, a goat named Kawlijah, and a flock of chickens.

Michelle, Licensed Veterinary Technician & Practice Manager

Michelle is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and Practice Manager with nearly four decades of experience in the veterinary field. A proud graduate of the Michigan State University Veterinary Technology Program, she has dedicated her career to the care and well-being of animals.

Michelle’s passion for veterinary medicine was inspired early in life by her mother’s deep love for animals. That influence set her on a path that has led to an accomplished and fulfilling career, blending clinical expertise with compassionate leadership.

As Practice Manager, Michelle is committed to supporting her team and ensuring exceptional care for every patient. At home, she enjoys the companionship of her own beloved pets, who keep her grounded and continually remind her of the meaningful work she does every day.

Reneé, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Reneé has been a licensed veterinary technician since graduating from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown College in 2005. Originally from Bad Axe, Michigan, she now lives in the Ortonville area with her family and two large dogs.

With a strong passion for anesthesia and patient monitoring, Reneé is thrilled to be part of the team at Lake Orion Veterinary Hospital. She brings years of experience and a deep commitment to animal care.

Outside of work, Reneé enjoys home renovation and DIY projects, biking, and spending quality time with her family.

 

Jennifer, Licensed Veterinary Technician

With over a decade of experience as an EMT and a deep-rooted passion for animal care, Jennifer brings a unique and compassionate perspective to veterinary medicine. Now a Licensed Veterinary Technician, she has been working in the field since 2024.
 
Her medical background, combined with her dedication to animals makes her a trusted and knowledgeable member of the team. At home, she shares her life with two beloved dogs, Scarlett and Willow, along with a variety of reptiles that reflect her love for the less conventional companions.
 
Jennifer approaches every task with empathy, precision, and a commitment to the well-being of all creatures—furry, scaly, or otherwise.

Alli, Veterinary Technician

 

Lexi, Veterinary Assistant

Lexi is a dedicated Veterinary Assistant with over four years of experience in the veterinary field. She is currently working toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician, combining her passion for animal care with a strong commitment to learning and professional growth.

Lexi is known for her compassionate approach and her ability to support both patients and their owners with empathy and care. Her hands-on experience and enthusiasm for veterinary medicine make her a valued member of the team.

At home, Lexi enjoys spending time with her husband and their beloved pets—her dog Jay, and three cats: Slinky, Jackie, and Hades. Her love for animals is evident both in and out of the clinic, and she looks forward to continuing her journey in veterinary medicine.

Julia, Veterinary Assistant

Julia has a passion for animal care and a deep commitment to the well-being of every patient she meets. Currently working in the field while pursuing her degree to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).

Animals have always been a huge part of her life. When she’s not at the clinic, she’s spending time with her own animals, three horses—Magnolia, Clever, and Suri—two guinea pigs named Cowboy and Bandit, and her tortoise, Ditch. As busy as life can be, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

As she continues her education, she is excited to keep growing in this field and learning everything she can to give animals the care and respect they deserve.

Karen, Client Service

With five years of customer service experience, Karen brings a welcoming smile and a calming presence to the front desk. After working in the automotive industry, she found her true calling in the veterinary field—combining her love for animals with her passion for helping people.

Karen is dedicated to creating a positive and supportive experience for every client and their pets. Whether she’s answering questions, scheduling appointments, or offering comfort during a tough visit, she approaches each interaction with empathy and care.

At home, Karen tends to her garden and shares her life with four beloved cats—Fat Chick, Harold, Chester, and Clyde—who keep her both entertained and on her toes.

Zachary, Client Service

Zachary is a dedicated Client Service Representative at Lake Orion Veterinary Hospital, passionate about delivering exceptional care and support to both pets and their owners. With over fifteen years of experience in customer service, he brings warmth, professionalism, and a strong commitment to client satisfaction.

From managing appointments and answering questions to ensuring clear and compassionate communication, Zachary plays a key role in creating a welcoming and stress-free environment from the moment clients walk through the door.

Outside of work, Zachary enjoys spending quality time with his pets, Prince and Vivian, as well as with his family and friends. His deep love for animals inspires him to go above and beyond to make every visit a positive experience.
